Ruth 1:16

16 But Ruth replied, “Don’t urge me to leave you or to turn back from you. Where you go I will go, and where you stay I will stay. Your people will be my people and your God my God.  17 Where you die I will die, and there I will be buried. May the Lord deal with me, be it ever so severely, if even death separates you and me.”    20 “Don’t call me Naomi (pleasant & sweet),” she told them. “Call me Mara, because the Almighty has made my life very bitter.   21 I went away full, but the Lord has brought me back empty. Why call me pleasant & sweet (Naomi?) The Lord has afflicted me; the Almighty has brought misfortune upon me.”

Boaz is called throughout the book of Ruth – _______________________

Ruth 4:17 – And they named him Obed. He was the father of Jesse, the father of David.

ICEBREAKER——Did anyone ever set you up with a blind date? - How did that go for you?

APPLY THE BIBLE  -Read  Ruth  1:16-18   How can you be more selfless as a committed friend ?

Q1— Can the choices we make influence how our life will turn out? What choices did Naomi and her husband make? How did their decisions influence their situation? Think about some of the decisions you have made. How have they impacted you?

Q2— Ephesians 2:10 says, “For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.” The last line of this verse provides an overarching theme for the book of Ruth; God is always at work, and he has a plan that is good. In the first chapter, Ruth’s life does not seem to be going well. What would you say to her in the middle of her situation?

Q3—Discuss the character of Boaz. Which characteristics are needed by men today as they lead the home and the church?

Q4—Discuss the ways that this book points to (or is a shadow of) better things to come through Jesus Christ.
