Romans 15:13 I pray that God, the source of hope, fill you with all joy and peace as you believe, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.
Is it happiness? Is it a state of being? Is it a mindset? Is it something we own? Something we can lose? Something that can be stolen from us? What is joy?
Happiness tends to be a reaction to ________________ in our life - an emotion that is the result of___________________.
Joy has _________________. When the power of joy is put into other things - it equals ______________.

John Calvin said: “There is nothing in afflictions which ought to disturb our joy. You must submit to supreme suffering in order to discover the completion of joy. Joy is a quiet gladness of heart as one contemplates the goodness of God's saving grace in Christ Jesus.”

ICEBREAKER—•What do we all think of when we think of joy?
APPLY THE BIBLE -Read Proverbs 10:28 “The hope of the righteous is joy, but the expectation of the wicked will perish.” Who are the righteous?
Q1— Describe the difference between joy and happiness? Do you have any examples you could share?
Q2— Pastor Travis made this statement: “Happiness tends to be a reaction to conditions in our life - an emotion that is the result of circumstance.” - respond to that statement….
Q3— How can your marriage, workplace, and church benefit from joy ?
Q4—Describe how coming to faith in Christ brought joy into your life. What differences have you observed in others who have come to faith in Christ? .
Q5—Why aren’t we overflowing with joy in our lives? Have you had people randomly come up to you and tell you they just see so much joy coming out of you?
A LITTLE LOVE HOMEWORK:
· Pray that God would put you in the path of someone where you can share your true joy with. Remember that joy is not found in stuff, but in the finished work of Christ. Ask God to remind you of that this week.
