Remember we said last week – “Gospel means _________________…”

And at the beginning of the last week of Jesus – we have this remarkable story --- this encounter that ____________________________ had with Jesus

this town called Bethany—is also called the town of ________________

Matthew 16:24      24 Then Jesus said to His disciples, “If anyone wants to come with Me, he must deny himself, take up his cross, and follow Me

25 For whoever wants to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life because of Me will find it.

26 What will it benefit a man if he gains the whole world yet loses his life? Or what will a man give in exchange for his life?

Your love for me ought to be such that your love for others seems to be _______________________ in comparison

The first thing she does – is she lets down her ______________

She washes his feet – but not with a towel – with her ___________ that she’s just let down

She abandons her _______________

if you want to follow Jesus – your going to have to _________________________ …

we can do a lot of good – _____________________________—the world needs to hear

There’s a simple spiritual equation that flows out of John 1:12: Believe + Receive = ___________________.

 Reflection and Discussion

In this passage, how are Mary and Judas different? What is it about their actions that are in contrast to one another? Discuss the question

Why was it important for the Jews to kill Lazarus?

Judas claims the perfume could have been sold for 300 denarii, which was a year’s worth of wages. In contrast, Judas later sells Jesus for 30 pieces of silver. What does this show about the value Judas placed on Jesus?

In chapter 11, John shows how valuable Mary’s brother, Lazarus, was to her. What do we find in this chapter concerning what’s most important to Mary? .

Knowing the value of Mary’s perfume, what does this say about the value she places on Jesus?

What does our culture have the most difficulty sacrificing: time, money or “rights”? Why?

Is there a particular goal for which you sacrificed? Do you know of someone who sacrificed significantly for his or her faith?

As your group closes in prayer: ask each group member to pray for another group member.
